Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation of the 1891 German play of the same title by Frank Wedekind. Set in late-nineteenth century Germany, it concerns teenagers who are discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score. Spring Awakening received eleven 2007 Tony Award nominations, winning eight, including Tonys for best musical, direction, book, score and featured actor. The show also won four Drama Desk Awards, while its London production won four Olivier Awards.
“Following the success of our past two summer shows, it is great to be bringing another exciting contemporary work to Ballarat”, says producer Matt Hustwaite. “And Spring Awakening is a real coup for us, we’re the Victorian Premiere and so far only Sydney Theatre Company has presented it. Ballarat will be seeing something completely new.”
Spring Awakening will be performed in February 2011 and calls for expressions of interest will be advertised soon, closely followed by auditions. Keep visiting blocmusictheatre.com.au for all the latest details!

BLOC Music Theatre has done a bit of a backflip and has decided not to proceed with 'Dusty' as our major production for 2011. While we believe that the show is viable for BLOC Music Theatre, and we could achieve a quality version of this production, a recent field trip, for a number of our committee members to see the production in Melbourne, resulted in a consensus that the production was not what they expected and, given the chance to do something else, they would. So the Committee as a whole has decided that we will do just that and 'go back to the drawing board' for the 2011 Production. Stay tuned for the rerelease of our 2011 major production.
